The
Magnificent
Severn
Meanwhile, Rod and Christine had moved back from London to come and live in Compton Basset in April 1990.
RR:
"We had only been back a few days when we were visited by two of my hardest-drinking buddies from my previous 15-month "lost weekend" Hugh Kirkbride and Nigel Easton tried to reassure me that all they were interested in doing was getting me to sing with a group they had formed for a special gig at a place called The Trenchard Club. Christine and I were dubious that it might spark off another year of partying but as the club was just down the lane from where we were living I agreed. A West-Country river called the Severn served as the
centerpiece for our name: The Magnificent Severn (there were actually seven members in the band as well). However, there was just the one gig by this lineup (which included Steve Lines -the first time I met him) but it was a lot of fun and I realised how much I had been missing live
work". |
