The Bevis Frond #2 All
of which takes us up to 1991, and I'm going to let Rod have his say once
more: RR: One strange gig that happened (September 29th) was at The Richmond in Brighton. Twink (!) turned up and sat in on drums for the Magic Muscle standard jam "Heavy in E" to start the set before Martin took over for the rest of the act. This ended with an outrageous finale with Captain Sensible (wot?) on bass and vocals (singing "The Pope Smokes Dope" I recall). The support band on this occasion was Psycho’s Mum (the actual culprits who'd succeeded in luring Nick Saloman back onto a stage for the first time in umpteen years, on August 19th, 1989, at the Royal Albert in Deptford, L.). The last gig of 1990 with the Frond was October 28th (it was actually advertised as "Bevis Frond’s last gig"!) at the Town & Country Club, with some very special guests: Bari Watts (having conquered the butterflies at last, L.) Twink, Gerald Claridge (of Oddsocks, one of Nick's former bands, L.) and Cyke Bancroft (responsible for most of Ptolemaic Terrascope's early art work, L.). |
