House of Dreams

RR: "Meanwhile, I was writing lots of new lyrics, poetry and songs at home. I borrowed an old reel-to-reel tape recorder from Tony Green (of Alehouse) & started to record lots of new -and quite psychedelic- music. At that time Simon House and his lady, Sue, used to visit us regularly and by the summer of '82 Simon and I had enough music and lyrics for an album. To read back over old diaries of those days is really strange, living as we did directly off the land even my opium habit was naturally catered for each summer by a massive white poppy patch, allowing me to live without chemicals for two or three months of the year. The rest of the time I was prescribed a very low-dose opiate so I was quite sane (?) for about ten days in every month. Then, when the inadequate prescription ran out I would start getting drunk again and Chris and I would find ourselves in countless bizarre situations that read (in the old diaries) like descriptions of very weird dreams not real but surreal life. Anyway, in London, on the 22nd September 1982 Simon and I finished our original recording of the House Of Dreams album after nine months of demo tape communications and various visits".
