Dragons

RR: "So we did the set and afterwards Huw Gower said "that was great, why don't you come and join Dragons, because George Smith is quitting and we're gonna need a new singer". I said "I don't think that I'm in the right state to be able to do it" But nevertheless a couple of months later I got a telegram from Bristol to say they' were recording and to come down. And I just went down regardless and I got involved with Dragons; I guess we spent about six months together, recording project only ("we" being Rod, Huw Gower on guitar and Nick Howell on drums; at a later stage they auditioned some keyboards and bass players, but by then Rod was already slipping away, mentally and physically, L.). After all the gigs that the other Dragons had done (earning themselves a strong reputation in London, carved out at the Golden Lion) we didn't actually do any but there should be live tapes about, live at the studio. Before I joined they cut a single for DJM, called "Misbehaving" that got some good reviews; basically we made good music but the times they were a-changin' at the end of 1977. The music we played varied from country rock which was the feel when I joined them, to a harder sound. It was kind of getting towards power pop as it was then being called, which was quite hard loud rock, but with perfect harmonies".
